Health Check Reveals Insight into IT Networks: 7 June 2011

7 June 2011

IT network monitoring and managing experts IMC Communications, conducted a national survey to investigate how the network managers felt about the current status of their networks in relation to business critical issues such as how they enable efficient business opportunities.

The inaugural survey consisted of three 30 second surveys and was sent to 500 companies. Titled IT Network Health Check, it was designed to get a snapshot of what network managers were thinking, what they were concerned about and whether they were prepared for the future.

Matthew Dixon, Sales Manager, IMC Communications says the research has helped the company further understand the latest thinking around networks.

‘Some of the responses were really interesting. They showed that although IT Networks are often the lifeblood of the company – vital to business service delivery – but they aren’t being used to their fullest capability,’ says Dixon.

‘One of the more startling responses centred on disaster recovery; we’ve had natural disasters all around us this year, yet 50% of respondents disagreed or strongly disagreed that they have adequate redundancy measures in place to cope well in a disaster.’

Other results included:

* Over 45% of respondents disagreed, strongly disagreed or were unsure that they have sufficient control of their IT network to innovate, optimise and adapt to changes within the business.

* 50% of respondents agreed that their Executive Management is increasing investment in their network over the next 12 months.

* Over 66% of respondents said they have a single carrier data network strategy in place, while 33% of respondents strongly disagreed.

* Only 50% of respondents disagreed or strongly disagreed that their network is designed to cope with their predicted business growth.

* 42% of respondents were unsure if they would increase their reliance on cloud-based computing.
