Welcome to the IMC e-zine

Inline ImageOn behalf of the management and staff of IMC Communications, I hope that you all had an enjoyable and relaxing break over the Christmas and New Year Period. As we head into 2010, we look forward to the challenge of continuing to produce and maintain stable, productive IT environments that provide the tools that enable our organisations to reach their goals.

This year will be especially important for the IT industry as there are interesting changes that will alter the way we perceive the delivery of IT to the desktop. Without trying to sound like a cliché, ‘cloud computing’ has arrived and is now a serious alternative to traditional centralised IT for many businesses. The decisions we need to make will concern not only what types of systems and applications suit our businesses, but also how to provide these to the users in our organisations. Software as a Service (SAAS) will give many businesses much more flexibility in how they deliver the tools their business needs. Also, it can allow for the selection of best of breed applications without many of the traditional purchase, implementation and operational issues of the past.

We do, however, need to approach this new concept with caution. Cloud computing raises its own issues, particularly about communications’ links, security of data and control over the IT environment. Also, it remains to be seen if the existing legislation around these issues is sufficient to protect users in their move to these SAAS technologies.

All in all, 2010 looks to be an interesting and exciting year in which I hope you all achieve the success that you deserve!

Enhancing WAN Performance...
Why? How?

Do these statements sound familiar for carrier managed networks?

"Our response times are terrible"
"We can't get to the right person quickly enough."
"We have no control."
"Making a change is too hard."
"We have limited visibility into our network."
"Our projects are behind schedule due to network outages."
"We constantly have to do work-a-rounds to get
things done."

IMC understands the importance of enhancing WAN performance in your enterprise. Below, we explain why it is important, what situations are preventing organisations from getting business value from their networks, and how IMC helps organisations to optimise network performance and extract more value from their WAN. Tips and Tricks

Did you know that Cisco have recently released
the next generation ISR routers?

The ISR G2 routers (1900/2900/3900 series) are replacing the previous generation ISR routers (1800/2800/3800 series) and offer up to 4x the performance, superior power management (reducing their CO2 footprint) and a simplified software licensing scheme amongst many other things.

For more information contact your IMC Account Manager or check out Cisco's video data sheets:

VMware ESX 3.x or 4.x - How to remove Orphaned Snapshots or stuck snapshot.

To remove them, there are several ways to do it, but the fastest and easiest thing to do is try to take another snapshot, then “Delete All” snapshots. This simple quick task clears out all of orphaned snapshots.
